A short distance from the centre of Ilfracombe by car or bus are the spectacular golden sandy beaches and dunes of Woolacombe, Croyde Bay and Saunton Sands. The whole area is a mecca for surfing and is a children’s paradise, where they will amuse themselves safely for hours building sandcastles, flying kites or playing in the shallow breakers.
Ilfracombe is ideally situated for you to explore the spectacular coastline and the delightful moorland reaches of Exmoor with its rolling hills and quaint villages; the unique twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth connected by a cliff top railway, Combe Martin on the edge of the national park and right into Lorna Doone country.
South of Ilfracombe is Barnstaple with its famous Pannier Market and Butchers Row. Here you will find a mixture of recognisable shop chains and independent retailers. Further South and you come to Torrington, a quaint Devon town with cream teas galore.
Before your trip around the area why not pop into Ilfracombe Tourist Information Centre where you can buy maps and guide books to plan your day.
