Access to Ilfracombe

Ilfracombe is largely built over the rolling and sometimes steep hills of the North Devon coast. Consequently there are some physical limitations to accessibility.

However the Esplanade, around the Landmark theatre, Capstone Hill and the harbour are generally level. There is a great programme of events to enjoy throughout the year and many are based in this area, where you will also find parking.

The links below give details of local car parks and public toilets including a map, while Phototrails lists several local walks with a guide to the accessibility for people with disabilities. If in doubt, come and see us at the Ilfracombe TIC for more assistance.

It also means that most of the properties offering accommodation also date from around the 1880s, some of them are listed. Access is sometimes via steps and many properties cannot accommodate lifts. However doorways and halls tend to be wide. Ilfracombe accommodation providers offer a personal, caring and welcoming service to all their guests and will endeavour to meet any special needs or overcome barriers effectively and respectfully.

Ilfracombe Access Charter

Promoting equal access for all

The Ilfracombe Access Group is a voluntary group working to improve access for residents and visitors alike. This is done through maintaining contact with local authorities, those with buildings open to the public and other relevant organisations. All those with symbols have signed up to the Ilfracombe Access Charter.
