The IDTA was formed in the late 1980s combining the Ilfracombe & District Hotel & Catering Association & the Ilfracombe Publicity Association. This new group took over the running of the Tourist Information Centre and the production of the Ilfracombe Guide, which continued until 2015.  In 2022 it has been renamed Ilfracombe & District Business & Tourism Association (IBTA).  We still actively promote tourism and local businesses within North Devon and in 2025 attended Devon County Shows to promote Ilfracombe as a destination to a wider audience.

Members are from various local businesses including Accommodation, Restaurants, Cafes and Tourist Attractions to small local businesses and shops. We offer a support network, with regular emails and a quarterly newsletter with a variety of social and informative events and workshops held in the low season, where you can meet other members and network.

Membership fees help towards the regular annual donations that we make to various Ilfracombe groups, the running of the Visit Ilfracombe website and Webcam, plus tourism projects which are voted on by members at our AGM.

We have representation on Ilfracombe Town Council, One Ilfracombe, the Town Team, Culture Club, Events 4 Ilfracombe and the Harbour Board.
