Just off the harbour and dating from 1360, the George & Dragon is Ilfracombe’s oldest pub on Ilfracombe’s oldest Street. It has operated continuously as a tavern during this time. The pub is said to be haunted by the ghost of Miriam Heard, an innkeeper dating from the early days of WW1.
The bar showcases a range of real ales (Cask Marque), international lagers, wines and spirits whilst the kitchen provides home cooked food from modern favourites such as burgers and lasagne to traditional dishes such as pot roast pork and beef in beer – vegetarian and vegan options are always available. The staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. All are welcome at the George & Dragon including families with children and well behaved dogs.
Regular events include weekly quizzes on Tuesdays, themed food and drink events and evenings featuring local musicians and artists. The George & Dragon is central to annual Fore Street events such as the Big Lunch in June.
