Ilfracombe Holy Trinity Graveyard Group

Looking after some 2,500 graves

Ilfracombe Holy Trinity Graveyard Group is a community based self-funded group, open to people of all ages and abilities, looking after some 2,500 graves.

When they started work in 2014 the graveyard had been left to its own devices for almost 4 years. They cleared the area of brambles, nettles and intrusive weeds and to encourage wildlife installed a hedgehog box, 6 bird boxes and a bug hotel! They have an agreement with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to receive annual payments for the care of 20 war graves at Holy Trinity.

They work with other local gardening and conservation groups and hold a fundraiser known as ‘Dead Famous in Ilfracombe’, the next event is to be confirmed for 2022. Tickets will be on sale for a guided tour around the graveyard where actors from Studio Theatre will tell you about some of those who rest there followed by refreshments in the Church.

The group meets weekly, on Saturday mornings between 10am and 12noon as they are all drawn to this special place and will not stop giving it the justice it deserves. Contact Erica Castle 07984 282442.
