Discovering the Natural Beauty of North Devon: A Camping Experience at Warcombe Farm

Nestled along the rugged coastline of North Devon, tucked between the charming village of Mortehoe and Devon’s best kept secret, Lee Bay, is Warcombe Farm Camping Park. The site is in an official Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and offers a perfect retreat for nature lovers and adventurers alike. It’s close to the World Surf Reserve at Woolacombe, the Tarka Trail for safe off-road cycling, and has direct access to the South West Coast Path, where visitors can witness some of the most spectacularly scenic walking in the UK.

Guests can take in the stunning sea views and incredible golden sunsets from their pitch, or choose a more tucked-away, leafy spot to relax and unwind. The fourteen-acre woodland walk is great for off-lead dog walks or letting the kids blow off steam. Children and adults alike will enjoy the interesting and educational nature trail – leaflets are available from Reception.

There is a fishing lake for the exclusive use of guests, with rod hire and plots that offer private gated access to the lake for added convenience. The children’s play area includes a much-loved zip wire for endless hours of fun.

Warcombe is extremely dog friendly – in addition to the off-lead walk, there is also a luxury doggie wet room/shower to ensure there are no muddy paws in the tent! Woofer Welcome Packs are given on arrival. Woolacombe’s main beach offers a huge expanse of dog-friendly golden sands, or guests can try the pretty cove of Barricane with its Sri Lankan Beach Shack – dogs are allowed but must be on leads. Combesgate has a ‘no dog’ policy but is wonderful for rock pooling; the National Trust’s Night Time Rock Pool Rambles are well worth trying – fascinating for all!

On-site facilities include large family wet rooms, a family bathroom with a bathtub for soaking sandy babies or tired feet after a day on the trails, dedicated disabled shower rooms, launderette, microwaves, wetsuit wash, and tourist information – all with underfloor heating for ultimate camping comfort.

The site shop promotes a wide selection of local produce, ciders, beers and wines. Handcrafted gifts and cards are also stocked. Freshly baked cream teas and pastries can be ordered daily, and a variety of nightly food vans serve during peak season.

Warcombe takes pride in being as eco-friendly as possible. The Beach Toy and Equipment Library – a collaboration with Plastic Free North Devon, now Earth Action North Devon – is a great way of reducing plastic waste in the oceans. Guests have been wonderfully cooperative and have played a huge part in making this a success.

The site also takes part annually in the Mortehoe Scarecrow Festival – a wonderfully vibrant event for the whole family. The scarecrow is brought back to site afterwards and usually becomes a bit of a celebrity with the children, who compete to name it and have their photographs taken. Who doesn’t love a scarecrow selfie!

Warcombe has won a series of awards over the years, including the David Bellamy Conservation Award, TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice, and second place in the UK Dog Friendly Awards last year.

The friendly, experienced team – with a wealth of local knowledge – are happy to help with any queries or recommendations. Visitors are welcome to pop in or give them a call.

A very warm welcome awaits at Warcombe Farm Camping Park in heavenly North Devon.
