The Ariel Studios

The Channel Arts Association was set up in 1987 to instigate and co-ordinate artistic activity in the coastal region of North Devon. Specialising in youth and community arts, the association has a brief for the social regeneration of Ilfracombe and North Devon.

In 1989 the Association leased the former ship to shore radio station, and the Ariel Music Centre was opened, now called the Ariel Studios, It provides a unique resource for the area, offering rehearsal space and equipment, workshops, a digital recording studio with three ‘live’ rooms and rooms available for hire for meetings.

The Ariel offers 5 rehearsal rooms, currently run on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, between 19:00 and 22:00. We also have basic drum kits available to hire, as well as bass amps, guitar amps and various other pieces of musical equipment. New evenings are added as and when demand arises. Private rehearsals outside of these public hours are available on request.

Music workshops happen as and when they are required. In the past the Ariel has provided workshops for new bands, adults with learning difficulties, excluded young people, youth groups, pupil referral units and various other groups and schools.
