The Town Centre

Most of the shops are independent retailers

Many of the buildings in the town centre date from the 19th century and it remains refreshingly free of the chains that make other towns exactly like everywhere else. Most of the shops are independent retailers and some have been in the same family for generations. You will find food retailers, building societies, chemists, clothes and homeware shops that will cater for your retail needs. It has often been said that you can find anything you need in Ilfracombe, just not all in the same shop! You will also find a warm welcome and an old fashioned charm rarely experienced these days. No faceless shopping malls for us.

The town centre also boasts a cinema, coffee shops, cafes, take-aways, pubs and restaurants. Do visit The Ilfracombe Chocolate Emporium, a chocolate lovers dream, they even have a chocolate Museum with lots of memorabilia and a six-foot chocolate man.

Whilst you are there, look up! Many of the buildings have stunning Victorian architecture much of it still unspoilt despite a number of buildings going through several incarnations.
