Ilfracombe Museum

Fun for Families and History Buffs

Tuesday – Saturday 10am – 5pm, last entry 4:30pm

Welcome to our interactive museum. We have an eclectic collection from Ilfracombe, the sea and further continents beyond! Master the controls of the Morse code ship-to-shore radio and send your own messages, watch as the 300 year old clock strikes the hour, uncover the horrors of the bat cave, if you dare!

We are a tardis-like museum in that we are much bigger on the inside and packed full of stuff: taxidermy, Victoriana, maritime trinkets and vessels, local history from prehistoric to modern day, African, Asian and South American religious and military relics, a giant butterfly and moth collection, costume and strange personal oddities like the wedding cake of Mr and Mrs Turpie who married in 1887! Still looks delicious.

Children can enjoy animal trails and brass rubbing is open to all for £2 a go. With a smartphone you can use the Curio app to learn more about particular artifacts.
