DESCRIPTION:Preparations are well underway for May the 4th\, when we will hold our Lifeboat Day here in Appledore.\n\n\n\nIn the morning our All Weather Lifeboat\, Mollie Hunt will be moored up against Appledore Quay\, so why not come aboard and have a look around. Then join us at our station in the afternoon to meet the crew\, watch on-water displays\, learn about the history of the station and lots\, lots more.\n\n\n\nWe are very proud to have invited some of our emergency service partners\, and local groups to take part in this event. SUMMARY:Devon County Show
DESCRIPTION:The Devon County Show is an agricultural show held annually at the Westpoint Arena and Showground in Clyst St Mary near Exeter.  It is one of a number of county shows in the United Kingdom. The show is a celebration of rural life in Devon\, and features country and livestock competitions\, a grand parade\, equine events\, local food and local drink\, traditional entertainment and rural crafts. \nThe show goes back to 1872\, when the Devon County Agricultural Association was formed to undertake promotion of the Devon County Show. It has been held annually ever since\, except for breaks during the two World Wars from 1940 to 1946 and 1915 to 1919\, and eleven occasions between 1890 and 1958\, when it was held in conjunction with Bath and West Show or the Royal Show when these were held in Devon. The show was first held at Victoria Park\, Mount Radford and then at various sites around the county until 1956\, when it moved to its first permanent site at Whipton Showground\, Exeter. The show moved to its present site at the Westpoint Arena in 1990.

There has been a lighthouse here since 1879 as after numerous bad storms\, and wreckers luring ships aground\, many ships were wrecked along this coastline. The current lighthouse was built in 1972. DESCRIPTION:The Seaweed Festival is back at Clovelly on 27th May to promote seaweed for its immense health and nutritional benefits.  In a multitude of colours\, textures\, shapes and sizes\, it is tasty\, full of minerals\, fibre without calories and is the best salt substitute. \nAlong the Quay\, there are a surprising amount of dishes and the stalls will be selling a range of seaweed products. It is a very informative event\, with suitable activities for all to enjoy\, including live music and street entertainments throughout the day.
