Ocean backpackers is situated close to Ilfracombe´s picturesque harbour.  This cool, clean and friendly hostel offers excellent facilities for walkers cyclists, surfers, divers as well as families, schools and activity groups.  Facilities include a Self Catering kitchen, dining area, communal lounge and free internet/wifi, large storage basements (for bikes and surf boards) drying room, patio area and free car park. 

We welcome groups of all sizes that enjoy the buzz of a backpackers and have a love of the great outdoors!  Single, double, family and dog friendly rooms are available.  Weekly discouts are also available and the whole hostel can be hired for exclulsive use.  Contact us for more details.

Driving directions

From Junction 27 of the M5, follow the A361 to Barnstaple. Continue on the A361 following signs to Ilfracombe.

On entering Ilfracombe from Mullacott Cross, at the first set of traffic lights turn left towards the sea front. Continue past the Landmark Theatre into St James Place (one way street)   We are the bright blue building on the right next to the church.


From the Car Park, turn left into Wilder Road down into St James Place. Ocean backpackers Hotel is on the right hand side.

Other transport

Take the National Express coach to Ilfracombe from London Victoria or the Megabus from London Victoria to Barnstaple.

From Barnstaple take bus No 21.   The closest stop is St James Gardens.  Look to the church and we are the blue building next door!!
