Activities

You will find plenty to do in and around Ilfracombe with a terrific range of activities available to suit all tastes including walking, swimming, fishing, horse riding, cycling, surfing, clay pigeon shooting, sub-aqua diving or simply exploring.

To enjoy Ilfracombe fully, every visitor should take to the water at some stage; there are the trips to Lundy Island, or coastal cruises along the coast including seal and wildlife safari and white water adventure.   Charter a boat for sea fishing or why not have a row in one of our Gigs at their regular gig ' taster' events.

Ilfracombe Gig Regatta

Ilfracombe is a good central base to visit surfing beaches nearby. Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton are all great places to surf and are between 10 - 20 minutes drive away. Board and wetsuit hire is freely available if you don't have your own and there are several surf schools offering training from beginner up to advanced level for both children and adults. Ilfracombe also has it's own indoor heated swimming pool.

Surfing

Ilfracombe is the ideal base for a cycling or walking holiday. The Tarka Trail (the old railway line, now a cycle path) is a popular route and the North Devon Coastal path (part of the South West Coastal Path) runs along the sea front. Exmoor, criss-crossed with walks and cycle routes is only a twenty minute drive away.

Cycling

Some of the regions finest golf courses are within a short drive of Ilfracombe offering a challenge for golfers of any experience.  Including Ilfracombe and the challenging championship links courses at nearby Saunton Sands and Royal North Devon, which is the oldest links course in the country.
